The sustain pedal on piano is an important tool for liturgical musicians to use in leading the congregation in song. In this video, Julie Spangler demonstrates how the sustain pedal can help with adding depth and emotion to the music being played.
Video by Julie Spangler. A member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Cincinnati, OH, for over 30 years, Julie has served as a musical liturgist there for a number of those years. She has been the keyboardist for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra since 1991 and plays often with the Cincinnati Symphony. In addition, Julie is a faculty member at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music where she serves as the music director, arranger, and accompanist in the school of Musical Theater.
