Using Obbligato Instruments in Ensemble Music

There are many obbligato instruments that can be used in ensemble music, including violin, cello, mandolin, flute, oboe, and many more. Dr. Ken Gilman discusses how obbligato instruments can enhance an ensemble, plus how to recruit new instrumentalists and help them get comfortable playing with a liturgical ensemble.

Video content by Ken Gilman. Ken is a retired music director and an obbligatist on a variety of instruments – mandolin, bouzouki, violin, octave viola, bass mandolin, etc. As a semi-retired psychologist and mediator, he works with first responders on topics of teamwork, communication, and burnout.
