Sight Reading Rhythms

Sight reading rhythms is an important skill for vocalists and instrumentalists. The ability to quickly understand the rhythm helps reduce the amount of information to process in a new piece of music and allows for greater focus on dynamics, tone, and balance. Building confidence in sight reading tricky rhythms also enables you to get off the page quicker to connect with the director and other musicians in your ensemble.

In this video, Lynné Gray talks through the basics of sight reading rhythms and connecting them to the pulse of the song.

Lynné Gray is a respected liturgist, arranger, director, composer, vocal coach, and accompanist. She shares her love of voice in ministry throughout the United States and has given numerous workshops. Lynné was blessed in 2008 to direct the Gospel Mass Choir during the Mass for Pope Benedict XVI.
