Second Sunday of Advent (A)
O Lord of the all the ancient ones,
fill your church with a spirit
of wisdom and understanding, counsel and strength.
We pray to the Lord.
Command leaders of nations, states and communities
to decide with justice for our poor,
and righteousness for our land’s afflicted.
We pray to the Lord.
Like John the Baptist before us,
give us courage to condemn hypocrisy, duplicity and all that denies, destroys or distorts your gospel of love.
We pray to the Lord.
O God of endurance and encouragement,
grant that all people may think in harmony with one another,
and welcome one another, as Christ first welcomed each of us.
We pray to the Lord.
When thick clouds of discord and division darken spirits,
shed light on the path to peace.
Give us hope.
We pray to the Lord.
Show us the way to true humility,
that we may repent of sin and proclaim your Reign of justice and peace.
We pray to the Lord.
Guide our beloved dead,

To their eternal home.
