First Sunday of Advent (A)
As we wait for your return, O Lord,
purify your Church from all selfishness, self-centeredness
and self-righteousness.
We pray to the Lord.
Shake our world from our slumber.
Remove the blindness from eyes and hearts.
May we recognize the pains and struggles of our sisters and brothers..
We pray to the Lord.
End violence and terror.
Command all nations to beat swords into plowshares,
and weapons of destruction into instruments of peace.
May we never train for war again.
We pray to the Lord.
Many are hungry, we beg for food.
many are homeless, we beg for shelter.
many are cold, we beg for warmth.
Transform us into servants for one another.
We pray to the Lord.
Give us courage
to speak truth to the powerful,
protect the alienated,
and challenge all those guided by bigotry and intolerance.
We pray to the Lord.
Father in heaven,
awaken in us your vision for our future.
Direct our minds and feet to ways of justice and generosity.
We pray to the Lord.
We remember our beloved dead, O Lord,
(Insert names).
May they live in the freedom of the children of God.
We pray to the Lord.
