About CLEF Life Resources
Catholic music resources for ensemble musicians
Our CLEF Life resources are free online Catholic music resources created to support music ministers and especially ensemble musicians. These resources offer ongoing support for musicians seeking to grow in skill, confidence, and spiritual depth.
Whether you are looking to improve your instrumental or vocal technique, grow your ensemble leadership skills, or learn more about the role of music in the liturgy, CLEF Life provides music ministry resources that can help.
Why we created CLEF Life
CLEF Life grew naturally out of CLEF’s broader mission to empower and connect ensemble musicians who serve the Church. As we listened to musicians from across the country, we consistently heard a desire for ongoing support and resources that could help improve their music skills, deepen understanding of the liturgy, and nurture the spiritual life that sustains music ministry.
While many excellent Catholic music resources exist, CLEF’s founders recognized a significant void in the formation and training available for ensemble musicians, especially those in smaller, rural, or culturally diverse parish communities.
Ensemble musicians come from many different backgrounds and serve in many different contexts. Many have little to no formal training in music but share a strong commitment to supporting the sung prayer of their communities. CLEF Life was created to serve and support the full experience of ensemble musicianship: technique, collaboration, liturgical understanding, leadership, and spirituality.
By offering free, ongoing Catholic music resources, CLEF Life supports musicians where they are — meeting real needs with practical guidance, reflection, and encouragement that can be applied immediately in parish life.

What kinds of resources are available?
CLEF Life offers a wide range of ministry resources that support ensemble musicians in many dimensions of their work. Past resources are searchable by keyword or from a menu of key topics.
Music and ensemble skills
Resources focus on instrumental and vocal technique, ensemble musicianship, music theory, collaboration, and more to help musicians grow individually and as a team.
Liturgical music and planning
Content that explores the role of liturgical music within the Mass and other liturgies, including guidance on music planning, repertoire selection, and pastoral considerations.
Scripture and sung prayer
Reflections and resources to help music ministers connect more deeply with Scripture through the readings at Mass and the Scripture verses that appear in the songs we sing.
Prayer of the Faithful
Our weekly Prayer of the Faithful posts offer prayers that liturgy planners can use in whole or in part to support this important moment of communal prayer in the liturgy.

Together, these Catholic music resources help form well-rounded music ministers — not just skilled musicians, but also thoughtful leaders and prayerful servants.
