God of all time
And all seasons,
As we enter the desert,
Shaped by minor keys
And unaccompanied voices,
Not an alleluia within earshot,
Nor a piano slide on the horizon,
Let us embrace the simplicity,
Let us seek the stillness of the rest,
Let us – those you have given the talent to make sound a gift –
Instead nestle in silence.
For it is when our voices are quiet
And our hands still
That we can recognize
Our own longings, our temptations, our failings
And once again,
Again and again,
Create space for You
In our hearts, in our lives,
In our music.
